Obituary Announcement

Susan Bennett (nee Staples) – Thursday, August 23, 2018 after a strong and courageous 17 year battle with breast cancer. Devoted and loving wife, absolute best friend and rock solid partner of Josh. Loving stepmother of Jason (Darcie) and Angie Taylor (Trevor). A blessing of a grandmother to Adia, Levi, Katelyn, Garry, Ainsley and Drew. Adored sister of Marion Staples, Carole Mair (Bruce), Bonnie Sedore (Phil), Beverly Phillips (Tom), and Patty Staples. Loved and cared for by a special sister in law, Margo Butler. Treasured aunt of several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Kenneth and Shirley Staples, brother Ronnie and niece Moriah. Special friend to Matilda “T” Heytens, Leslie Vye, Donna Stewart and Cathy Broderick. Sue enjoyed a 26 year career with the Canadian Coast Guard. She also had a great love for horses, dogs, Elvis Presley and “Life on the Rock”. She was also known for her kind, loving and giving spirit, her bright smile, enormous sense of humour, for putting others before herself and for fighting her disease head-on without so much as a complaint. The family would like to thank Drs. Yoshida, Lilly and Dostaler at Bluewater Health Centre's Oncology Dept, Dr Munhunthan Blue Water Health, Dr. Lock London Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Crombeen St. Joseph's Hospice, plus the many caring and compassionate nurses who looked after Sue, especially in oncology. Sue preferred to dress casually, and it is in this spirit that we ask everyone who chooses to attend her service to do so. Friends will be received at the McCormack Funeral Home – Stewart Chapel, 254 George Street (at College Avenue) for visitation with family on Thursday August 30th from 12 to 1 pm. A Memorial Service will follow at 1 pm. Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Susan’s Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Sue's memory to St. Joseph's Hospice, Sarnia, Ontario.

Josh and family. Sorry for your loss. Due to an appointment that I’m unable to miss I won’t be able to make it to Sue’s visitation or service. My thoughts are with you and your family today at this sad and difficult time.

We know from Marion how deeply Susan was loved and respected, and we know that life here just won't be the same without her bright presence. There are so many memories and stories that bring a smile about Susie. She touched so many lives in a positive way. Sue never complained about her illness and always said there is other folk worse off than herself. Sue loved her family and friends and especially her soul mate Josh. Sue was a truly giving person and touched so many lives. My family and I feel blessed to have known her and shared special memories. Sue will always be in our hearts. Love, Cathy & Ross & family

Dear Josh, Marion, Carole, Bonnie, Beverly and Patty, as well as all her relatives & friends. Please accept our sincere condolences for your lost. Sue was remarkable, a dedicated Coast Guard member with charismatic attributes. She was kind, lovable and generous with a smile for everyone at work where she contributed during her career efforts at safety and search & rescue. I remember one woman came in the office to offer us her thanks because her husband was saved near Sarnia because Sue answered the distress call. An honorable person that will truly be missed by the ones who love her and those of us grateful to have known her. May her memories of a beautiful lifetime be in your hearts always, I will personally remember such a caring soul. With profound respect. Pierre & Liette Papineau

Grandma Sue was a warrior in the truest sense of the word. She gave the best hugs and always had a listening ear. Spending two years of college was a lot easier knowing I was coming home to Poppy and Grandma Sue, it was a privilege to live with them both. Life is sadder now without you here, I will miss you forever. Cancer didn't beat my grandma, my grandma beat cancer.
