SELVER SONMEZ (Sylvia)

February 1952 - September 2019

Some called you Silver, but to us, you were 24-carat gold.

Sylvia was born in Çanakkale, Turkey on February 9, 1952 and passed peacefully on September 7, 2019 in Sarnia, Ontario surrounded by her family. Sylvia never shied away from a challenge, had a head for business and was always the centre of the fun; but first, she was a dedicated and passionate mother to her sons Jimmy (Carmen) and Steve (Carrie). She also recently became the proudest grandma to Jimmy and Carmen’s baby girl, Nesrin Silvy.

Sylvia’s door was always open to the boys’ friends as they were growing up…whether they needed someone to listen, a place to stay or a home-cooked meal. She loved being a hockey mom and her baklava was a family fav. She will be remembered for her enthusiasm and extreme generosity.

​

The family is most grateful to Bluewater Health for their care of Sylvia and are forever indebted to Marshall Gowland Manor (MGM) for accepting Selver and her family into their extended family.

Selver battled with Early Onset Alzheimer’s disease for many years. To support prevention research and in Selver Sonmez’s memory, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada are appreciated.
