Obituary Announcement
Euclide "Eucie" Edward Forgues
Forgues, Euclide Edward (Eucie) - Euclide left us from Twin Lakes Terrace Nursing Home on Wednesday December 12, 2012 to be with the Lord. He was the beloved husband of Roma (Laporte) for 59 years. Loving father of Marla Sue and her husband, George Kostis. Dear grandfather of Kelton Kostis and Shara, Aidan, Jade, and Briar Fitzgerald, and great-grandfather of Zander, Ashton, Heath and Rayna. Euclide was predeceased by his infant son, Wayne (1954), father, Albert (1976), mother, Emilia (1988), two brothers, Gerald (2000) and Rheal (2010), and also by his brother-in-law Darl Laporte. He is survived by his five sisters; Estelle (Rene Longtin) of Gananoque, Pauline of Rochester, New York, Georgette of Ottawa, Rita (Reo Sarault) of Casselman, and Lise (Marcel Racine) of Casselman, and his brother Roger of Cornwall. Survived by his brother-in-law Robert (Trudie) Laporte of Turtle Lake, Sask., and by his sisters-in-law, Dianne Laporte of Ottawa, and Betty Fleurie of Kirkland Lake. Euclide's main passion in life was contributing to the betterment of children, which he met through his professional career in education and his volunteer work with the Army Cadets, the Memory Project and the Rotary Foundation. Of his many accomplishments he obtained his PhD in Education and Multi Engine Private Pilot's Licence. After serving for 18 years as Director of Education in Hearst and Kirkland Lake, he retired to Sarnia, where he served as part time Superintendent for the French-language Boards in Lambton and Woodstock. He was instrumental in the development of the French-language programmes for these two boards. He was, at times, a guest lecturer at the University of Quebec in the Education Department, and a part-time instructor at Lambton College. He remained a trustee for the French-language School Board of Southwestern Ontario for six years. A long time Rotarian, he was made a lifetime member of the Rotary Club of Sarnia. While in Rotary in Kirkland Lake, he served as District Governor as well as the International President’s representative at a District Conference in Lima, Ohio. He was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship for his work in Rotary and he became a Benefactor of Rotary International. Euclide was active with the Army Reserves where he served as an active officer retiring with a rank of Lt. Col. Euclide was a long time member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church where he was a Reader when fathers Beneteau and Charette were pastors. Euclide’s final request was that his friends and acquaintances perform acts of kindness in his memory toward those that are less fortunate, as he, himself, tried to do throughout his life. Friends will be received at St Thomas Aquinas Church (895 Champlain Road, Sarnia) for visitation on Tuesday December 18 at 10 o’clock am. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 o’clock am. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Eucie’s Guestbook” at mccormackfunerals.com. Expressions of sympathy to either Rotary International or the Sarnia Foundation would be gratefully appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to McCORMACK FUNERAL HOME – STEWART CHAPEL, Sarnia.

Yesterday, for the first time I searched the names of friends on the internet. Eucie's name was one of the first, and I was much saddened to discover his obituary as I was looking forward to renewing contact with him.
When I arrived to teach at Winchester in the early 60's, Eucie was quick to offer his hand in friendship, took me to meet Roma, and introduced me to a wide range of social experiences which were instrumental in helping me to settle in a new job in a new country. I have always been very grateful to him for this.
I find it most pleasing to note from his obituary that Eucie continued to lead a life so full of social and academic achievements, and I am sure that there are many people whose lives will be the poorer for his loss - but who would hopefully treasure many happy memories of him as I do.
Yours very sincerely,
John Davies.

We knew Euclide in Kirkland Lake through the 1609 Army Cadet Corps. He was a distinguished man and extremely kind and helpful with the cadets. Doug took his place as CO when he left Kirkland Lake and they were big shoes to fill. We are sure he will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Working for Roma and Eucie way back in in the early 80"s in Kirkland Lake when they owned The Fashion Centre. Eucie was such a gentle man and always treated me with respect. They would have our Staff Xmas party at there home, Eucie will be the host of the party. My heart goes out to Roma & Marla and their Family with deep sympathy. Although I never knew Eucie, Aidan is like a Brother to me, therefore it is with a sad heart I send my condolences to the family. Aidan has shared many stories about his Grandfather, and what a wonderful man he was. He will live on in Aidan everyday.
Thinking of the entire family and all friends at this heart breaking time,

Aidan, Roma and family, My son Paul Michael and Aidan were in
school together at St. Thomas Aquinas. I meet M.Forgues that first day of registration. From the start I knew he was a military man always so straight forward.
Roma and Eucie raised Aidan to become the wonderful caring man he is today. My Paul was very close to the family Eucie was like his grandpa too. Grammy you are also so special to our family. We are not blood but Paul, Scott and I will always be your family
Eucie will be missed by all.
Love, Carol
