I first met Darlene through Cole, who is a friend of my daughter Heather and her husband, Matt. Later, she moved to my neighbourhood and she and I used to go for walks together. She was upbeat, funny, kind and caring. It was obvious she loved her children and grandchildren very much. My heart aches for you all very much, including the rest of the family. Your openness about Darlene’s struggles with mental illness is another step in destroying the stigma that exists. As someone who has struggled with depression, thank you. Please stay strong. I will be there on Saturday..

I am so shocked and saddened to learn of Darlene's passing. I knew Darlene through riding and our shared love of Rocky Mountain horses. She always seemed so happy, friendly and upbeat. She must have been incredibly brave to present the world with such a positive face while dealing with the crippling pain of mental illness. All our sincerest condolences for your families loss. We grieve with you. Respectfully, Shelagh Morrison Ailsa Craig, Ontario
