Obituary Announcement
WICKENS, Ann – Passed peacefully on January 23, 2020 at Bluewater Health Palliative Care in her 92 year. Predeceased by her husband Jack Wickens (2006), her sister Rosemary Miceli (2017) and very good friend Bill Jacques (2018). Dear mother of John Wickens and wife Pat Wickens of Austin, Texas and aunt of Michael Miceli of Toronto. She immigrated to Kirkland Lake via Ellis Island from Velky Rusko, Czech Republic with her parents Juraj and Maria Stefanko in 1936. Later she moved to Sarnia with friends to work at Sears and then the Unemployment Office. According to Ann’s wishes cremation has taken place and no Memorial Service will be held. She would like you to remember her in good health. She was a feisty, spit-fire of a person who was ever shy to speak her mind or charge ahead regardless of circumstances. We would like to thank the staff at Landmark Village for the exceptional care and service during her residency as well as the staff at Bluewater Health and the Palliative Care Unit for their outstanding care during her final few days. Special thank you to Sheila, Judy, Christine and Theresa for being there for Ann when she needed it. After my mother died (who was Ann's sister), Ann took it upon herself to call me every night at 9 PM to check and make sure that I was alright. She was always worried about me and hearing my voice reassured her that everything was okay. I will miss those phone calls. Instead of checking in with me every night on earth, I know that she is looking down and watching me from Heaven making sure that I'm okay. She will definitely be missed. May she rest in peace. My condolences to Elva's family and friends. Elva was a kind and gentle soul who looked after my brothers and I during our formative years. She was an amazing lady who held a special place in our family's hearts. I will always cherish those childhood memories with her. Rest easy Elva.

Was very saddened to hear of Ann's death. She was always so kind to me and we always had such a great time! I so enjoyed our chats each January when she would phone me, after getting our Christmas card and family letter. We had a special connection and I will always remember her with great fondness. Our condolences to the family. In remembrance, with Love, Dottie.

John - Wanda and myself pass on our sincere condolences to you and Pat. I have many fond memories of your Mom and Dad and often reflect on the good times we shared as neighbours on Hagle Street. I recently came across some old photos of your Mom as I was sorting through some of my Mom's photo collection and couldn't help but reminisce about those times back in the 50's and 60's. Best Wishes!

I was sorry to hear of Ann's passing. I worked with Ann at the Unemployment Insurance Office for a number of years, and loved her feisty personality. I moved from Sarnia in 1988 and returned in 2017 and fortunately I had the opportunity to visit Ann at Landmark just a few weeks ago. I'm so glad that I did get to see her one last time. My sincere condolences on the passing of a lovely lady. Carol.
