SPOHR, Marion Jean (nee Laird) 1933-2023

Peacefully, in the presence of family, Marion Jean Spohr, passed away in her 91st year at the Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus, in Ottawa, ON on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. A cherished daughter, Jean was born on August 15, 1933, to Robert Arden and Iva May Laird in Forest, Ontario and spent her childhood there. As a young woman, Jean began her career wrapping chocolates at Laura Secord in London, ON. Later, she worked for the Bank of Montreal and accepted a position in Whitehorse, YU where she met Manfred and she turned her attention to family life. Returning to Ontario and eventually settling in Sarnia, Jean gave birth to three daughters who were the light of her life. She presided over a warm homestead where friends and family gathered to share the joys and sorrows of life. Jean will always be remembered for her beautiful green eyes, her warm smile and ready laugh. She had an incredibly generous heart and a tender love for all animals. Jean believed life was meant to be enjoyed to the fullest, here and now - tomorrow is never promised. A loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Jean is survived by her 2 daughters, Susan (Joe) and Sonya; her grandchildren, Samantha, Sarah (Ryan), Alexander, Keziah, Ava, Maya (Jordan), Kalisa, and Sienna (Yaya); her great-grandchildren, Javier, Enzo and Jacob; and her sister Marlene (Mark) and a multitude of loving nieces and nephews. Her death is preceded by her daughter Sandra (1978), her husband Manfred (1990), and subsequent partners Ken (1986) and Ray (2006); and her parents Arden (1980) and Iva (2001) and brother Jim (2013) (Henny).
