Obituary

Ernest Bernard Scully ( Ernie )
August 20, 1934 – March 31, 2023

Ernie passed away Friday March 31, 2023, at Bluewater Health in Sarnia. He is survived by his wife Phyllis of 66+ years, his sons Rick (Ruth) of Toronto, Geoff of Sarnia, his grandchildren Sarah (Mark Russell) of Toronto, Adam of Toronto and his great granddaughter Poppy Russell. Ernie was very proud to have been born and raised in Cobalt, a small northern mining town in Ontario to parents Maurice and Ella Mae. He was the last surviving sibling of his brothers and their respective spouses, Edgar (Claire) of Ottawa, Rev. M.J. Scully of Temiskaming Shores, Basil Vancouver and Cliff (Lois) of Pt. Elgin. He was also predeceased by his sister-in-law Frances Somers and her husband Jim. Ernie worked at Fiberglass Canada for 35 years. He was hired as a lab technician and ended his career as product inspection for Sarnia and the other Canadian plants. Ernie was an involved citizen. He enjoyed volunteering with the S.M.A.A. in hockey and ball. He was also an Elks Member for many years. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and boating. Many summers were spent at a campsite on the Montreal River near his hometown of Cobalt. Above all, Ernie was a devoted Catholic who served his Church as a commentator, senior adult server and choir member. He was an active St. Vincent de Paul member and led a team of volunteers at the Food Bank. He was a good man, he led a good life and he is now in a better than good place. May he rest in peace. A private service was conducted. Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Ernie’s Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com.
