Obituary

Irene Dorothy Murray

Peacefully at Marshall Gowland Manor February 14, 2023, at the age of 94. She will be deeply missed by her children John (Hady) Murray Jr., Kathy (Marty) Wade and Patricia (Billy) Neill. Proud Grandmother of Lisa (Joe) Drumonde, Sonya (Ricky) Richardson, TJ (Megan) Woodward and Krista. Great Grandma to Charlotte, Olivia, Elliot, Allison and Keegan. Pre-deceased by her husband John Murray Sr. (1990) Irene was proud to be a war bride. Born in Slough, England in 1928. And at the age of 16 during WWII, she met a dashing Canadian soldier. They married in the UK and in1946 she set sail alone on the Aquatania for Canada. They started their 44 year marriage in Stratford, Ontario and in the 1950’s moved to Sarnia. Widowed at the age of 62, she bravely faced life alone for 32 years. Finally, they are together again. Mum was an avid gardener and tradition was to present the first ripe tomato to her firstborn. Every spring was a family competition to see who spotted the first robin. The door was always open and the tea kettle always on. She loved to cook and bake; her chilli sauce and bran muffin recipes are a beloved family treasure. Another of her hobbies was knitting, and boy could she knit! Christmas was her favourite time of year, she shopped year-round for the perfect gifts. We are truly blessed to have a million memories of this wonderful lady we called Mum. If you could describe Mum in one word, it would be “sweetheart”. Her love for her family was endless. Always caring and kind, always there to listen, always there to help.

“Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again “

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the amazing staff at MGM (Rose Hall). You treated our Mum with kindness, showed her love and above all preserved her dignity. We will be forever grateful. A private family service will take place on Tuesday February 21, 2023. Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Irene’s Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com. Arrangements were entrusted to McCormack Funeral Home.
