Obituary

Maxine Alice Kenny

July 25 1927 – November 20, 2024

It is with saddened hearts that we announce Maxine Kenny’s passing at the age of 97 on November 20, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Thomas Kenny (2021), they were together for seventy years. Mother to William (Nancy Avery: predeceased), Beverly (John Scudamore), Gail (Martin Nisbet); Granny to Mark (Chloe), Pat (Callie), Taylor (Katty), James (Sandra), Jenny (Shaun), Kristine (Scott), Tom (Anne), and David. Great Granny to Logan (died in infancy), Audrey, Archer, Alex, Brayden, Myles, Alice, Levi, Beau, Charlotte, Martin and Cameron. Maxine was born in Sarnia, Ontario on July 25, 1927, the cherished daughter of the late Andrew and Alice McKenzie, and sister to Bill (predeceased). She attended Havergal College in Toronto where she made life-long friends and was proud to be part of the ‘old girl’ alums. After graduating from Guelph University, she married her home-town sweetheart Tom, and they settled into a long and happy marriage which included kids, cats and dogs. In the later years, they enjoyed winters at their condo in Longboat Key, Florida. Maxine gave back to the community through years of volunteer work with Meals on Wheels and the IODE: Hon. Norman Rogers Chapter. She and Tom were long-time members of the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club where she had a standing order: grilled cheese with well-done bacon. Maxine was the heart of the family, always ready with a smile and a good laugh. She was blessed with good health, close friends, and three ‘almost perfect’ children. Her grandkids adored her. They carry fond memories of the candy cupboard and the Williams bakery cookies that awaited their visits. The great-grandchildren, ranging from babies to tweens, saved their very best smiles for her. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Afton Park Place for providing Mom with exceptional care, compassion, and friendly chats during her stay; and to Tammy, her delightful companion in later years with whom she shared many an outing. A private family service will be held. Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Maxine’s Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com.
She will remain forever in our hearts.

Max was a very special lady. We enjoyed our golf and lunch outings, including grilled cheese sandwiches with crispy bacon. Gail, my thoughts are with you and the family.
