Obituary
Norma Kathleen Gage (née Newton)
November 27, 1930 – April 17, 2025
Norma Kathleen Gage, in her 95th year, slipped away peacefully near the shores of Lake Huron, in the place she loved best, with calm resolve and on her own terms. Norma was extremely grateful for the wonderful life she lived. Norma was blessed with good health, life-long friends, a head of beautiful curls, and the prettiest smile. Born in Alvinston, Ontario on November 27, 1930, Norma was the youngest of four girls. Soon after Norma’s birth, she moved with her parents and three older sisters to Forest, Ontario where Norma attended primary school in the same Grade One class as her future husband, Jack Gage. Norma was proud to be a graduate of Forest District High School. In 1954 Norma graduated as a Registered Nurse from Sarnia General Hospital, with a special award for outstanding achievement; highest average in Bedside Nursing. Right after graduation Norma married her sweetheart Jack Gage and settled in Sarnia to start their life together raising their two wonderful daughters, Lee Ann and Nancy. Norma was a dedicated volunteer throughout her nursing career – with the MS Society of Canada and with the VON. Norma enjoyed an active life; roller skating, ice skating, downhill and cross-country skiing, and extensive travel in Canada and the world. In later years Norma and Jack spent their winters in Victoria, BC. Norma enjoyed walking everywhere, especially savouring the beauty of Canatara Park. Norma was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack (2006) and her loving partner, Ray Ferguson (2016), her parents, David and Lillian Newton, her sisters Marie Prout (1966), Geraldine McCahill (2015), and Irene Otten (2020). Norma will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her daughters Lee Ann Dil (Pierre) and Nancy Barry (Clive) and by her beloved grandchildren Matthew Dil (Julia), Andrew Dil (Hayley), Daniel Barry (Hayley), and Sarah Barry (Bernardo) and by her precious great grandchildren Penny, Amelia, and Levon. Norma will also be greatly missed by her sister-friends Evelyn and Marilyn. A special thank you to the Palliative Care Support Team. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sarnia Riding Club (980 Riding Club Lane, Sarnia) on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 1 – 3 p.m. Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Norma’s Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com. Dear Lee Ann & Nancy, I am thinking of you both as you share memories of your dear Mom. I always looked forward to my visits with Norma, a very classy lady, always dressed to perfection and a smile on her face. Norma was very proud of her family and loved to share stories with me about her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. A life well lived and her legacy will live on through her family.

We send our condolences to your family upon the passing of Norma. She was a dear lady and much-cherished friend of my mother. I enjoyed a few visits with her in recent years. I am sure my Mom and your Mom are reminiscing about their nurses' training. May Norma rest in peace.
