Obituary
Mary Faye Farnworth (nee Foster)
February 6, 1936 – May 12, 2026
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Faye Farnworth, longtime resident of Sarnia, Ontario, on May 12, 2026, at the age of 90. Faye died peacefully after a sudden and brief illness with her daughters by her side.
Faye was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, on February 6, 1936, to Edna Foster (nee Parkhill) and Richard Foster, younger sister of the late Janette Barr. She moved to Montreal, Quebec in her early teens where she graduated from high school and put her sharp mind into practice working as a secretary at Stelco. There, she met the love of her life, Clifford Farnworth. They married on June 16, 1956, in Verdun, Quebec and welcomed their first daughter Heather Anne shortly before relocating to Sarnia, Ontario in 1961. Happy to escape the Montreal winters, they purchased their forever home at 116 Cecil Street where they celebrated the arrival of their second daughter, Jennifer Lynn. Faye dedicated her life to her family and her passion for lifelong learning, travel, music, cooking, cats, and the outdoors. Utilizing her keen organizational skills, Faye worked for Clark School and Lambton College. These skills translated at home to well researched and exciting vacations around the world including Wales, Bahamas, Thailand, England, visiting relatives across Canada including memorable and riotous family gatherings at Grand Lake, New Brunswick and many winter get-aways in Sandestin, Florida where she enjoyed golfing with Cliff and volunteering in the community library. Faye was a dedicated member of Canon Davis Church and enjoyed singing with the church choir as well as with the Sarnia Melodyaires. Early in her marriage, every summer was spent at the “Sutton” cottage in southeastern Quebec and, years later, at a log cabin on Gillies Lake near Tobermory. She loved being close to nature and brought this to her community service as a volunteer with the Girl Guides of Canada and with the local Herb Society.
Faye was predeceased by her loving husband Clifford in 2014, devoted sister Janette Bar in 2021, and leaves behind her daughters, Heather Anne (John Gillanders) of Toronto, Jennifer Lynn (Tom Lacelle) of Marquette, Michigan, her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Nathan Lacelle, Alison Gillanders, dearest family across Canada, and a treasured community of friends and neighbours throughout Sarnia and the surrounding area.
Thank you to the caring staff of Fairwinds Lodge where she spent her last year making new friends and enjoying life, and to the wonderful nurses and doctors at Bluewater Health where she received compassionate care.
