Obituary

Davidson (nee Cowen), Evelyn Mary

Surrounded by family, on Monday, May 30, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Sarnia, at the age of 77. Evelyn was the beloved wife of Jack for 58 years. Loving mother of Brian Davidson and his partner Keith Briscoe, and Greg Davidson.

Evelyn is survived by her brother Mike Cowen and his wife Dianne of London, Ontario, and predeceased by her parents Peter and Hilda, and her sister Judy Mort. She also leaves behind many cherished relatives in England, the birthplace she held dear throughout her life.

Evelyn will always be remembered for her unwavering generosity, kindness, sense of humour and easy smile – she was a joy to be around, making friends and family feel special and adored. She was a lover of travel who enjoyed visiting family in England, as well as new destinations like Paris and Florence, two of her favourite cities. Anyone who knew Evelyn can testify that she was a true English rose: effortlessly classy, unfailingly gracious and impossibly elegant – even in the most unlikely circumstances. Only Evelyn could spring from an unglamorous couchette on an overnight train from Paris to Venice with every hair in place and lipstick perfectly matched to her chosen ensemble.

How she did it all is a mystery, but she lived to make the most of the moment, while also taking care of not only her own family, but also elderly friends in need of a helping hand and a hot meal. She was also a knitting and crocheting machine, and many were the lucky beneficiaries of her beautiful creations. In her retirement years, she was a tireless volunteer at Bluewater Health. Having warmed her loved ones with an ever-present flame, she now passes the torch to us to keep her life and love alive. Anyone who knew Ev would accept that challenge in a heartbeat.

The family want to thank the staff and nurses at Bluewater Health Palliative Care, the nurses and staff at St Joseph’s Hospice, and the family and friends that helped care for Evelyn and support the family.

As a proponent of science, Evelyn has chosen the Body Bequeathal Program at the University of Western Ontario.
