Obituary
Susan Brouwer (nee Skam)
With sadness and love, we announce that Sue passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Bluewater Health in Sarnia, in her 72nd year. Susan was a loving wife of 50 years to Henk, a caring mother to Kiersten, Matthew, and Kyler (Heather), a proud Grammie to Enid, Cecilia, and Lucy, and a special Aunt to Emma. She will be greatly missed by all her family, including brothers- and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Ronald and Eileen Skam as well as siblings Bill, Bryan, and Sylvia. Born in Sarnia, Susan was a lifelong resident of the area. She graduated from Northern and, in addition to devoting years at home to her family, worked as a legal secretary and constituency assistant. Sue was an active, vibrant member of her churches, Trinity Anglican and St. Paul’s Anglican, and she dedicated countless hours to further their missions. She loved Jesus and her faith was unquestionable. Music was Sue’s passion and she shared it with others often. She played organ and piano at church and community events; she performed in local theatre productions, including Esther, Evita, and Joseph; and she was endlessly humming a tune around the house. She loved her family. Her house was always open for gatherings - tea was a must - and she kept everyone connected. She loved her grandchildren “bunches” and she always made time for them; story time won’t be the same without her. Her family would like to offer special thanks to Nurse Mandy and all the support from Bayshore as well as Dr. Orla MacSweeney and all the caring staff of the palliative care ward at Bluewater Health. Eternal gratitude goes to Judy whose endless love and support helped her through her most difficult days. A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11am at Trinity Anglican Church on Saturday the 23rd of September, with visitation beginning at 9:30am. For those who cannot attend in person, the Celebration will be shown on Trinity’s YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@trinitychurch3411 . An interment for the immediate family will be held at Lakeview Cemetery after the Celebration. Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Susan’s Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com.
Sue and her husband volunteered together at the Inn of the Good Shepherd. Her family asks that if you are so moved, you make a donation to this organization in her memory.

Condolences
Sincere condolences to the whole Brouwer family. Sue was a good friend and Bible study sister. She was a wonderful example of Christian love and she always gave credit to Jesus for all the good things she did for others. I miss her personally and our Bible study group isn’t the same without her; we all miss her! Thankfully we are comforted in the trust that she is now safe in the arms of Jesus. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers, now and always.

Sue was one the first people I met at Trinity Church. I was touched by her warmth and graciousness. I miss her and knowing she has entered into her Heavenly Father’s kingdom will hopefully bring her loved ones comfort.

Dear Henk and family, I just received the sad news (via Annemarie) of Sue's passing. Please accept my condolences for your loss. I still remember meeting Sue and your kids when we visited your place with tante Ineke back in 1988 (I think it was). Wishing you well and hope you will find the strength to deal with your loss. Best, Jan (cousin)
