Obituary Announcement

Gunning, Joanne Sarah (nee Koskie)

After a long battle with several health issues, Joanne left us peacefully on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021, with her family by her side.  She was a strong fighter to the very end.  She was the beloved wife of Ted (Edward) Gunning for over 52 years.  Their’s was a remarkable high school teen love that endured these many years together.  Ted and Jo enjoyed spending their winters in Florida as well as playing golf at the Sarnia Golf Club for more than 20 years.  As Jo's health deteriorated their special time together was spent overlooking the magnificent Canatara Park and Lake Huron from their balcony.  Joanne worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years working her way up the ladder to becoming an insurance adjustor.  She also enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adeline's for many years. She is loved and will be truly missed by her husband Ted, and their son Daniel (Kristin) Gunning.  Her days sparkled from the stories and visits from her grandson Jacob, who she held in her heart with the greatest pride.  She will be sadly missed by her sisters, Barbara (Rick) Jennings and Darlene (Rick) Macartney and her sister-in-law, Jodi "Heather" McConaghy.  She was a caring aunt who leaves behind many nieces and nephews.  Thank you to Dr. Lilly and the staff in the Palliative Care Unit at Bluewater Health for guiding and supporting us in Jo's final days.  If you knew Jo, celebrate her life in the stories and memories you recall. At Jo’s request there will not be any services. Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Jo’s Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com. We will miss you Jo and you will live in our hearts forever. Donations in Jo’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
