Obituary

SPOHR, Marion Jean (nee Laird) 1933-2023

Peacefully, in the presence of family, Marion Jean Spohr, passed away in her 91st year at the Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus, in Ottawa, ON on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. A cherished daughter, Jean was born on August 15, 1933, to Robert Arden and Iva May Laird in Forest, Ontario and spent her childhood there. As a young woman, Jean began her career wrapping chocolates at Laura Secord in London, ON. Later, she worked for the Bank of Montreal and accepted a position in Whitehorse, YU where she met Manfred and she turned her attention to family life. Returning to Ontario and eventually settling in Sarnia, Jean gave birth to three daughters who were the light of her life. She presided over a warm homestead where friends and family gathered to share the joys and sorrows of life. Jean will always be remembered for her beautiful green eyes, her warm smile and ready laugh. She had an incredibly generous heart and a tender love for all animals. Jean believed life was meant to be enjoyed to the fullest, here and now - tomorrow is never promised. A loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Jean is survived by her 2 daughters, Susan (Joe) and Sonya; her grandchildren, Samantha, Sarah (Ryan), Alexander, Keziah, Ava, Maya (Jordan), Kalisa, and Sienna (Yaya); her great-grandchildren, Javier, Enzo and Jacob; and her sister Marlene (Mark) and a multitude of loving nieces and nephews. Her death is preceded by her daughter Sandra (1978), her husband Manfred (1990), and subsequent partners Ken (1986) and Ray (2006); and her parents Arden (1980) and Iva (2001) and brother Jim (2013) (Henny). Details of Service: The family invites you to celebrate her life on Monday, September 25th, 2023, at McCormack Funeral Home - Stewart Chapel, 254 George Street, Sarnia, ON. Visitation will take place from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 pm. Dear Marlene, Susan, Sonya and families, My sincere condolences on the loss of your dear Sister and Mother. Always ready for a party and a good laugh, Jean was one of the few who could and would talk back to her Uncle Orville. Remembered with fondness, Bonnie McLeod Hegarty.
