Obituary
Simmonds, Kevin
Peacefully with family by his side, on Tuesday June 2, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Sarnia, at the age of 75 after a 1-year battle with bladder cancer. Kevin was the beloved husband of Janine for 52 years. Loving father of Kelly Vandenberghe and Jeffrey Simmonds. Cherished grandpa of Emma and Adam. He will be remembered by his sister Pat Pachkowski. Kevin was predeceased by his parents Hazel and Bob Simmonds, and his brother-in-law Paul Pachkowski. Born in England, had a passion for football, was a professional drummer and novice guitar player. Kevin was a dedicated soccer coach of many teams for over 40+ years including Sarnia Girls Soccer Club, Sarnia FC, Corunna Wildcats and the Lambton College Soccer Varsity Team. He was also an avid soccer player and referee. The void to be felt on the field by the soccer community will be unprecedented. His legacy will be remembered by all who crossed his path. He leaves behind lasting impacts as a coach, mentor, musician, friend, husband, father, grandparent and his love for all his extended family. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice for their compassionate care of Kevin. Aquamation has taken place. No funeral will take place, but instead a more fitting Celebration of Kevin’s Life to be held at Lambton College Lions Den, located at Lambton College of Applied Arts and Technology, 1457 London Road, Sarnia, on Saturday July 11 from 1 - 4 pm. Condolences
Coach Kevin was always a great guy to catch up with when we visited Lambton College or when they came to Niagara College. He represented Lambton College and his players with professionalism and dignity. He will be missed by the Ontario college soccer community. Sincerest condolences to Kevin's Family and the Sarnia soccer community.

All our condolences on the loss of Kevin. He coached my daughter Adrienne around 20 years ago We admired not only his ability to teach the players skills and team play, but also sportsmanship and team spirit. We shared a love of Liverpool Football club and remember the excitement of the 2005 Champions League win as well as England games. We also shared a love of music. Kevin’s legacy will live on. Many of Kevin’s former players are now coaching their own children

Kevin was my coach for many years at SGSC and had a profound impact on my life. He was funny, kind, fair, and deeply passionate about advancing girls’ and women’s soccer, both in our local community and across the country. Kevin played a significant role in helping me earn a scholarship many years ago, and I will always be grateful for his guidance and belief in me. At a time when many coaches focused primarily on the men’s game, Kevin was a dedicated advocate for women’s soccer and a remarkable mentor to countless young women in the community. His influence extended far beyond the field. He inspired confidence, fostered opportunity, and helped shape the lives of so many players. Kevin will always be remembered fondly by me. Today, as I work with youth in our community, I find myself passing on the knowledge, values, and passion he shared with me. His legacy lives on through the generations of players, coaches, and mentors he helped develop. My deepest condolences to your family. Please know that Kevin made an immeasurable impact on his community, and his contributions will never be forgotten. His work, dedication, and love for the game will continue to be felt for years to come. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

Kevin’s name was synonymous with soccer. He loved the sport as evident from the number of hours/days/years he spent on the field and the many teams he coached over the years. My sincere condolences to his family and a personal thanks for sharing him with our soccer community. He will be missed.

Janine & Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I was fortunate enough to know Kevin through his wife, Janine, at the Bluewater Bridge, and he also coached me while I attended Lambton College. Kevin was a wonderful coach and an all-around great person. I have many fond memories of his kindness, encouragement, and positive influence. He will be deeply missed. My thoughts and condolences are with you and your family during this difficult time.

To Janine and family: Please accept our deepest condolences.. Kevin was a wonderful man and friend. His love for family and the game of football (soccer) was something else. His "skill" level in the new "older" league know as walking soccer was something to see especially when he'd score a goal and that "grin" on his face says it all. All the best Steve & Carolyn Kutz
