Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Jean-Yves Coulombe announce his peaceful passing on Friday May 30th, 2025, at the age of 82 after a short hospital stay in London Ontario.
Jean Yves is predeceased by his amour, Micheline (nee Gagne). He is survived by his children (3), Brigitte, Jimmie (Kelly) and Julie (Jamie); his grandchildren (6) Brock, Courtney, Avery, Sarah, Ethan and Aaron; and his One and Only Great Grandchild (1) Maxim. A very special thank you to his special friend Francine Drapeau. Dad was born on May 25th, 1943, in Riviere au Dore, Lac St Jean Quebec, to Pierre Eugene Coulombe and Rita (nee Tremblay) he was eldest of (8) children Pierrette (Jeannot Grenon), Diane (Feu Normand St - Pierre), Ginette Coulombe, Serge (Micheline) Belanger, Marjolaine Coulombe, Lynda (Laval Frigon), and Louizel (Claude Morin). As a teen he worked in his father’s grocery store, delivering goods and driving the store Jeep. (probably where his love of Jeeps started). At the age of 19 the idea of a grocer’s life was not for him; he left his little village and headed south to Montreal, enrolled in a course of Machinerie Reparation and Soudure* at the local college and became a Welder (*machine repair and welding). He moved back home to La Dore, danced with Mom and married her July 27,1964. With wife and young daughter in tow off they go to Sault Ste. Marie Ontario for brighter pastures at the Algoma Steel Plant. So very brave! They could only speak French! With a great union job he could now take care of his family financially, so more children came. Two More! A boy and a girl. While residing in the Soo he volunteered to supervise at the outdoor ice rink at our local school Our Lady of Lourdes, assisted with the Bon Soo Winter Carnival and one year he pulled Santa in his red sleigh for the Christmas Parade with his Skidoo! Many Saturday afternoons were spent towing the neighbourhood children up and down the street on the toboggan being pulled by snowmobile. Dad was hard-working and dedicated; he spent a number of years working in the Sarnia area where his extensive hands on experience in welding earned him a well known reputation as a master welder / pipe fitter for UA Local 800 Plumbers Pipe Fitters and Welders Union, Sudbury. He was master of everything to his children. “Daddy could fix anything”. His love for problem solving and keeping a “very organized shed” was something he shared with his children, leaving a mark on us that will never fade. We find comfort in knowing that Dad’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Jean-Yves Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com. If desired, in remembrance of the “Dog Father”, donations to the Sarnia Humane Society would be appreciated.

I worked with John at Algoma Steel and in Sarnia, as welders. I always liked John and his wife. They were good people. He was always optimistic. I will miss him.

I’m so sorry for your loss, John was such a wonderful man always a big smile on his face, have known John for many years as long as I’ve been here 35 years, he would take my grandchildren with Abby and her sisters next door for rides in his jeep, they loved it, I will surely miss John, friend and neighbor, my heat goes out to you and your family❤️❤️❤️❤️
