Obituary Announcement

Cates, Evalean Jean

Peacefully on Monday February 15, 2021, at Fairfield Park Nursing Home in Wallaceburg, at the age of 95. Jean was the beloved wife of the late Donald (1986). Loving stepmother of Doug and his wife Cynthia, Leslie Cates, Linda Cates and Rob and his wife Maddie. Cherished Grandma of 9 very special grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Survived by her brother Carl Armstrong. Special Aunt of Brad Armstrong (Patti), Brenda Armstrong, Scott Berry, Kirk Berry (Deb), Brent Berry (Hedi), and Great Aunt to Christopher and Matthew Berry. Predeceased by her parents John & Ada Armstrong, her sister Eileen Berry and her husband Harold, her sister-in-law Anne Armstrong, and her stepson Les Cates. In her earlier years, Jean was an active member of Mooreline Burns United Church and retained friendships with several ladies from the UCW. A stenographer by vocation, she will be remembered for the hundreds of letters she exchanged over the years. Jean was very much loved and respected by her family. She was smart, stoic, a straight shooter and perhaps best known for her dry sense of humour. She kept her mind sharp with crossword puzzles, spirit bright with her love of ice cream, and never stopped taking pride in her appearance. Cremation has taken place, and the burial of her cremated remains will take place in Merlin, Ontario at a later date. Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Jean’s Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke would be appreciated.

My deepest condolences on Jean's passing. She was an amazing woman and a tireless worker at Burns-Mooreline United Church. I am saddened that our little UCW group was unable to see her last year due to the pandemic.

Peter & Loretta Trainor, Loraine and Clint Fox, Dennis and Margo Cofell, Bev and Jean Cofell and families

Our deepest sympathy to Carl and family and the Cates families on the passing of our dear cousin Jean. She will be deeply missed.
